Charleston Benne Seed Wafers
Brand Olde Colony Bakery
Along with sweet grass baskets and sweet tea, Benne Seed Wafers are quintessential Charleston. Unique to the Lowcountry since Colonial times, Benne (the Bantu-word for sesame) was brought from East Africa and planted extensively throughout the South. Our favorite 'bennes' are made by the oldest family-owned bakery in the historic Charleston area. They are as flawless by themselves as a morning treat with tea as they are to complement a stinky cheese tray. Third generation trans fat free recipe with no preservatives, no chemicals, and no hydrogenated oils.
